North Okaloosa Medical Center Nurse Bert King Receives National Award for Nursing Excellence

Crestview, Fla. December 20th, 2022 – Bert King, a registered nurse at North Okaloosa Medical Center for 22 years, has received a national 2022 Nursing Excellence Award.

King, who works in the emergency department, is one of 10 national winners selected.

King was surprised with the recognition during a meeting with hospital leadership where he was presented with a crystal plaque.

“He is well deserving of this award, and to me and his co-workers, he is an Everyday Hero for so many reasons,” says Steve Noggle, M.D., ED Medical Director and Chief of Staff. “Bert always put patients and his staff welfare before his.”

His steady demeanor regardless of the situation anchors our ER team. His ability to lead by genuine example is truly remarkable. Bert lives our daily goal of Every Patient, Every Time.” says Mike Nordness, CEO of North Okaloosa Medical Center.

The Nursing Excellence Award was created to honor the critical role nurses have played in treating patients throughout the pandemic. The peer-nominated award program was open to qualifying RNs and LPNs working in a direct patient care position who consistently demonstrate characteristics synonymous with nursing excellence. These characteristics include outstanding care, compassion, service and innovation, and reflect the efforts of someone who is a demonstrated team player and/or mentor to others, is a leader in times of crises, and who regularly promotes health in the community.

King joined North Okaloosa Medical Center in 2000 and in that time has displayed exceptional clinical nursing skills and is a seasoned leader that team members trust. As part of the Nursing Excellence Award, King received a copy of “Shining the Light on All the Right – Celebrating the Art of Nursing Around the World” by Mark and Bonnie Barnes, cofounders of The DAISY Foundation, an international movement created to recognize and express gratitude for extraordinary nursing.
