Drive collects 2,242 jars for Feeding the Gulf Coast
CRESTVIEW, Fla., (April 2, 2024) - To help address hunger in our community, and to celebrate National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day on April 2, North Okaloosa Medical Center (NOMC) is donating more than 2,200 jars of peanut butter to Feeding the Gulf Coast.
NOMC’s employees, medical staff members, and volunteers donated the jars during the recent Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive.
According to Feeding the Gulf Coast, an estimated 10% of people in Okaloosa County are facing food insecurity. The goal of the Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive is to help support individuals facing food insecurity, which is a social determinant of health. Peanut butter is one of the most requested items for food banks because it is high in nutritional value and has a long shelf life, but unfortunately it is one of the least donated items.
North Okaloosa Medical Center engaged in a friendly competition with sister hospital Santa Rosa Medical Center for the second year to challenge both hospitals to collect as much peanut butter as possible. NOMC did come out on top for the second year in a row, with the real winner being Feeding the Gulf Coast, collectively NOMC and SRMC collected over 3,500 jars of peanut butter.
